Ken Barnes is the founding member of the Barnes Law Firm. Ken has been very successful throughout his career in obtaining favorable settlements and verdicts for people who have been injured. Ken specializes in representing those railroad workers who are covered by the FELA (Federal Employers' Liability Act) and those employees who are covered by the Jones Act, which applies to employees who are injured working on rivers and waterways. Ken has obtained several multiple million dollar results in FELA and motor vehicle accident cases. Among his most significant trial results, Ken obtained the highest verdict in the country involving cumulative trauma injuries to a railroad worker covered under the FELA. Ken has also been successful in other areas of law, successfully arguing a case which is now nationally recognized as one of the leading cases outlining a corporations duty to preserve electronic data for litigation purposes.
Jason Kander currently represents Kansas City, Missouri as the Representative of the 44th District in the Missouri House of Representatives. He received his B.A. in political science from American University in 2002 and his Juris Doctorate from Georgetown Law in 2005. Prior to joining the Barnes Law Firm, Jason worked as a commercial litigation associate at Spencer Fane Britt and Browne LLP. A former Political Science Instructor at UMKC, he is also the co-founder of Heartland Democrats and a Senior Advisor to Votevets.org. From 2006 to 2007, he served as a Military Intelligence Officer in Afghanistan with the Army Reserve. Today, he is a First Lieutenant with the Missouri Army National Guard where he serves as an Officer Candidate School Instructor.
Dan Sawyer began his legal career in 1956 when he went to work for a law firm founded by the late Earnest Hubbell. For more than four decades, he was a named partner in that firm which specialized in FELA (Federal Employers' Liability Act) law. In addition, Mr. Sawyer is a past president of the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys and previously served as Designated Legal Counsel for the United Transportation Union. Currently, Mr. Sawyer continues his representation of injured railroad workers in personal injury cases brought under the FELA.
T.K. Smith’s emphasis is litigation at the federal and state court trial level. T.K. has experience in trial, mediation, arbitration and general litigation matters. His experience encompasses torts, serious personal injuries, wrongful death, contract disputes, consumer rights and employee rights. T.K. practices throughout the
country and has successfully tried jury and bench trials representing both plaintiffs and defendants. Prior to joining the Barnes Law Firm, T.K. practiced with other prominent litigation firms in Kansas City. T.K. has now focused his practice to the exclusive representation of individuals. His main areas of practice with the Barnes Law Firm are protecting individual's rights, including serious personal injury, employee rights, and consumer rights.
TK is a member of the National Employment Lawyers Association. TK and his wife
have three children and enjoy volunteering their time with at risk youth.
